Your Journey is a comprehensive weight management program starting in southwest Michigan. We have created a program that addresses ALL of the critical areas in weight management:

Your Journey - Kalamazoo Medical Weight Loss

Our program is tailored specifically to your needs, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. With your own dedicated team of practitioners, you can start your journey in a new direction to live a better life!

Your Journey Weight Management Program Includes:

Physician Managed

Monthly appointments with a physician to help manage medical issues and prescribe medications if indicated, including initial and final lab work.

PT Evaluation

Evaluation by a physical therapist to develop your own personal exercise plan and follow-up visits to fine tune what you are doing.

Dietitian Visits

Individual visits with a dietitian to help figure out what you are eating and to help design a nutritional program that you like and can realistically sustain with follow-up appointments as needed.

Behavioral Specialist

Appointment with behavioral specialist to explore habits and thinking that may be getting in the way of success – with follow-up at scheduled intervals.

Hormone Consult

Consultation with pharmacist specializing in hormones to see if imbalances are present and follow-up visits to help correct these.

Weekly Meetings

15 Weekly weigh-in meetings where we will discuss a variety of topics to help give you resources and provide accountability.

Dr Jennifer Houtman

Jennifer Houtman

MD

Jennifer Houtman, MD was born and raised in Kalamazoo. She has been board-certified since 2003 and has done inpatient and outpatient family medicine with and without OB since residency. She has also remained active teaching both medical students and residents from Western Michigan University School of Medicine.

She has interests in women’s health, obesity medicine and is a member of the Obesity Medicine Association. She is also interested in functional medicine, is a member of the Institute for Functional Medicine, and is currently completing further certification in functional nutrition. In addition to running her own practice, she also works for Visiting Nurse Practitioners, providing medical care to seniors in local assisted living complexes and nursing homes in the Kalamazoo area. She also is a community faculty member for Wmed and has medical students rotating through her office.

Jennifer has been struggling with her own weight since the birth of her last
child 10 years ago – she understands first hand the struggles and frustrations involved and is excited to be collaborating with so many other talented women in the community to bring superior weight management care to southwest Michigan.

Purvi-Peake

Purvi Peake

Pharmacist

Dr. Peake was born in Toronto, Canada, where she lived until she moved to Michigan in 1998 to attend Ferris State University. She graduated from Ferris State University with her Doctor of Pharmacy in 2003.

Dr. Peake has been a consultant pharmacist specializing in women’s health at Portage Pharmacy since graduating in 2003. She has received advanced training in several aspects of women’s health including proper consideration and use of compounded hormones. She completed a fellowship in Anti-Aging, Regenerative and Functional Medicine (FAARFM) affiliated with the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M) in 2007. She has extensive training in traditional pharmacy topics and is uniquely qualified to work with providers to customize therapies, including hormone therapies, specific to patients needs. Her passion is working with women one on one, using an individualized approach, to help them feel their very best.

Dr. Ellen Hector

Physical Therapist

Dr. Ellen was born and raised in the Detroit area, and graduated from Central Michigan University with her Bachelor’s degree in Sports Medicine / Exercise Physiology / Athletic Training. She then attended the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and graduated with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2008. She holds specialties and additional certifications in Concussion Rehabilitation, Pre-/Post Natal Coaching, Manual Therapy, Orthopedics/Sports Medicine, Vestibular Therapy, Clinical Education, ASTYM, and Kinesiotaping. She is married to a very attractive lumberjack, has 2 beautiful sons, owns a dog and knows 2 cats who occasionally grace her with their presence.
Cara-Ahlgrim

Dr. Cara Ahlgrim

Physical Therapist

Dr. Cara grew up in Northern New York and studied Behavioral Neuroscience at Northeastern University, where she also played field hockey. She earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of Vermont and is RockTape FMT Blades & Blades Advanced Certified. Her clinical interests include orthopedic and sports rehab, as well as injury prevention and manual therapy. Cara is currently studying to become a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) to enhance her ability to connect with clients and gym members. In her spare time she enjoys visiting craft breweries, spending time outdoors, skiing, and spending time with her family.

Registered Dietician

Trina Weber, MS, RDN, LDN has been a registered dietitian nutritionist since 2003. She specializes in overall wellness, eating disorders, sports nutrition, and gastrointestinal (GI) issues. Trina uses an individualized approach with each client, meeting the person where they are and creating a unique path forward based on individual needs.
Ashley

Ashley Trieu

MA, LLP,PC

Ashley was born and raised on the East side of Michigan. She completed her Bachelors of clinical psychology at the University of Michigan- Flint and her Master’s in clinical psychology at Wheaton College. Ashley also has numerous post masters classes in psychology. Ashley has over 10 years of experience in a variety of settings; including 2.5 years in an integrated healthcare setting as a behavioral health consultant, integrating medicine and behavioral health- including weight loss and diet change. Ashley is married and has 2 very active children.

Jaclyn Martinez

PAC

Jaclyn Martinez PAC was born and raised in the small northern Michigan town of Alpena. She graduated summa cum laude from Central Michigan University in 2011 with her bachelor’s degree in dietetics. She then earned her Master’s of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies at the University of New England in Portland, Maine. Upon graduating, she returned to her hometown of Alpena and practiced family medicine for 3 years prior to relocating to Kalamazoo, MI in 2017. She practiced obesity medicine at Bronson Weight Management Specialists for the past 3 years, providing medical weight management services to the Kalamazoo area.

Jaclyn is thrilled to join Dr. Jennifer Houtman at Inspired Health and Wellness where she will continue her passion providing medical weight management services. She feels strongly the importance of being truly passionate about her work, and credits her mother for encouraging her to pursue her goals and be true to herself. She states, “I feel the best approach to practicing medicine of any kind is a team approach. And, no matter the size of that team, the patient is the most important member. I invite my patients to tell me about their goals and how they feel I can best help them reach those goals.”

Jaclyn spends her free time with her husband Rob and their two little boys. Her hobbies include spending time “up north” on the lake where she grew up, experimenting in the kitchen to make recipes healthier while still delicious, and binge-reading Janet Evanovich books (a trait she states she inherited from her late mother).
